Enjoy the surf smelt fishing on the ice in Hokkaido in winter.

This is the best course to experience the harsh winter of Hokkaido enjoying the ice fishing from January to February.
Shinshinotsu Village is located in the centre of Ishikari Field, and it takes you just an hour from Sapporo.
It is a heavy snowfall area and you can see Hokkaido in its true colors.
Enjoy the surf smelt fishing in the special tent site built on ice at Lake Shinotsu which dams up Ishikari River. You will be surprised that the tent is kept warm with stove and plywood sheeting while it is freezing outside.
As it takes just one minute on foot from the fishing site to Shinshinotsu Hot Spring Tap-no Yu, you can take a bath and a rest without worrying about freezing After lunch, you can enjoy fishing to the full until 13:50, 10 minutes before the departure time,
・You can ask a chef to cook the fish you caught at the site.
・The tour bus will come back to Sapporo at 15:00, and this is a perfect deal for those who want to spend a satisfying day-trip in Hokkaido.

Visitors are provided a special tent (windshield) and dig a hole beneath the ice ground. (The staff will dig the hole beforehand.)
Even if the inside of the special tent is kept warm with stove and plywood sheeting, wear warm clothes while ice fishing outside.
After fishing, you can have your fish cooked at Shinshinotsu Hot Spring for lunch. Show the fish you caught at the site and receive a memo from the local staff, which assures the number of fish you caught.
All the deep-fried surf smelts that the participants caught will be served on a large plate. Check the memo with number of fish you caught and take that number of fish from the large platter.
